It was NOT McVay that said they wanted Blythe to remain the Center. It was the opinion of the article writer. Clearly McVay was hedging his bets because he needs to keep all of his options open.
I have no doubts the Rams want to do better at Center. But.... who knows if they can? Heck, they aren't certain they can keep Blythe. They know they need a viable competent Center at the least.... and that sort of describes Blythe. He's not about to say "we need better" if Blythe winds up as their only real option.
