I concur, I believe it was somewhat overblown because I attended several games including their first year when them moved to the dome in October 95 and everybody was an awe over it and it's why that Cleveland moved to Baltimore and Houston moved to Tennessee was because of the sweetheart deal Georgia received from the Gateway City.
That being posted, the darkness was an issue on TV and you're right replacing the turf, did that, but the old Astro Turf was horrendous. Just was a stadium that was set up to fail.
