I just don't care about 2023

I think that's how I'd sum up this whole thing for me. Some people that are critical of the trade say to me "it flies in the face of having a 10-year plan for sustained success." Who the heck has a real 10-year plan? Or five years? You know what a 5-year plan is? Having a good coach and QB. The rest? TBD...

Then I hear "the Rams are going all in for 2021." You know, I heard that in 2018. Then 2019. Then 2020. Now it's 2021. Now I would definitely be a much more conservative GM and I posted last week I'd have kept Goff for 2021 and then it would be much easier to move on from him in 2022. But hey, give Snead credit. Not for not making a mistake (extending Goff after year 3, which it clearly was) but for aggressively trying to fix the mistake vs. just, as my mother would say, "sitting in your own s*** because it's warm."

People like Orlovsky, who loves the fit with Stafford in LA, said the Rams are in a "two year Super Bowl window." Probably true. But 2023 and beyond? Why hand-wring over something that has SO many unknowns and variables. The roster will be 60% different from 2020 in 2023. Is Donald, at age 32, even still a Ram that season? Maybe. Maybe not. Ramsey? Maybe, maybe not.

I'd love the Rams to have 10-12+ years of sustained success too. But when it comes to the 2023 season and roster? I'll worry about that in late 2022. If Stafford thrives he is young enough that the Rams could still be in good position for 2023 and 2024. In the meantime I would LOVE the Rams to be contenders for the next two years and try to be Super Bowl contenders 5 times in 6 seasons. That is not easy to do. Let's try to make that happen and then worry about 3 years from now when we get closer.
