Go back and look at Lions' defensive rankings the past decade. I've looked on analytics sites like Football Outsiders and Pro Football Reference and it's not pretty. They were legit in 2014 and the Lions went 11-5. Pretty good in 2013 too. Otherwise maybe 1-2 other seasons when they were in the 15th-17th range and mostly bottom 8, including the past two seasons when they were basically worst in the league.
So much for the genius of Matt Patricia.
