I wonder what better established, more widely respected analysts and commentators think. Without us personally agreeing with them or not being the driving factor.

So, I caught a little bit of Sam Wyche on NFLN this evening.

Essentially, he said that that, in 2017 when McVay came on the scene with the Rams, his offensive scheme was CLEARLY ahead of defenses and stayed that way through most of 2018. However, NFL defenses began to catch up. Said Goff was unable to evolve to stay one step ahead.

Now, I put Goff's name in bold because Whyche specifically mentioned him as being unable to evolve - not McVay. Whyche also mentioned Goff's turnovers. He attributed some of those turnovers due to poor OL play. But he also said that some of those turnovers resulted from indecision by Goff. Said that defenses (who were onto McVay's and Goff's tendencies) took away Goff's primary reads. As a result, Goff would pat the ball waiting for a receiver that wasn't going to be open. Led to sacks, hits, fumbles, and INT's.

Wyche went on to say that the trade gives Goff a fresh start in Detroit who should have plenty of draft capital to support him.

Another commentator (I forget his name) mentioned that, rather than evolving his offense, McVay was forced to simplify it coming into this season.

That's all I could remember.
