They drafted Jefferson who has the same skillset as Woods and Kupp. And he's already had a year of development.
Meanwhile, we know that they're looking to upgrade at QB and need draft picks.
Could we see a trade of either Woods or Kupp for a late 1st/early 2nd?
Pair that with a trade of Goff for a late 1st.
Those picks form the start of a package for Watson and you suddenly have a lot of cap space to work with too.
Exactly.
All of the positive attributes people are assigning to Kupp are accurate - except that he's elite or even in the next level below. I mean...I don't think any NFL GM would pick Kupp over...say, Stephon Diggs (a non-elite WR). But that doesn't mean that he (Kupp) isn't a damn good player or that any team wouldn't want to have him.
But given his injury history and the play of Jefferson, I'd think that the team would part with him in order to secure some more draft capital (i.e. a 2nd round pick).
And despite the unit's very good play this season, I don't see any available defensive player with the same marketability (SJD?).
Watson, Akers, Woody, Jefferson, John Ross (FA deep threat), and Higbee? I think McVay would roll with that.
