And I say this because the Rams have given players $$$$ based on potential. Not that I am pining for it. I don't know a lot about Watson. I've watched a few games and some highlights... I don't necessarily see him as an elite QB but maybe McVay/Snead feel like they could make him into one. And Snead will swing for the fences. Snead also doesn't seem to value 1st rounders as much... maybe he feels that with Watson they would be low 1st rounders anyway, and the talent drop-off to the 2nd round pick isn't substantial.
Your post reminded me of an interview Snead did a couple months back when discussing their draft philosophy.
They view 1st round picks as a way to get elite players. Basically, if they feel someone is a homerun in the draft they would keep the pick. If not, they have no problem trading it for an established elite player.
They see the 2nd and 3rd rounds as the place to fill in the team with BPA - players with high upside like Kupp, Akers, Johnson, etc.
They see the 4th round and later as the place to fill in all the needs.
With that thinking, they probably wouldn't have any problem sending up to 3 #1s for Watson.
