The reason we run the plays until 0 was a counter to teams adjusting to what we came out in. The defense has mics just like the offense and they can hear coaches until 15 seconds on play clock.
This was McVays way around teams knowing what formation we were coming out in. It is a good premise if you can run your offense quickly and can read a defense quickly.
The problem is sometimes we can't get the plays off in time or the defense will adjust from their original look and we don't have a lot of time to adjust. Burned timeouts wasted plays.
Mcvay want to play chess everytime a defense gives him a look and it takes away from the strength of the team sometimes. Say we are running the ball well and team start to stack the box mcvay will counter with a pass play to beat that defense.
The problem is that run call will most likely succeed also because we have been running over the team all day. Or defenses will switch up or disguise their alignments blitzes etc and confuse Mcvay and Goff.
