I've been playing with a simulator. Interestingly, the Rams can clinch a playoff spot as early as Saturday with an Arizona win over San Francisco. That's right. Rams can clinch before they even play on Sunday. (The Vikings loss this past weekend ensured that.)
The only way the Rams do NOT make the playoffs is:
-Rams lose out
-Bears win out (Jaguars, Packers)
-Cardinals lose to the 49ers.
-Bucs win at least one game (Lions, Falcons)
Also, Rams win 2nd seed by winning out and a Saints loss to the Vikings on Friday.
Although it was embarrassing, the loss yesterday wasn't particularly statistically significant other than probably knocking them out of a first round bye. (Technically, they're still alive for the #1 seed but Packers would have to lose both games on top of one Saints loss and of course Rams winning out.)
