Yeah, in some ways the timing is odd because the offense was OK under Fitzpatrick and they are very much in the AFC playoff hunt. But also switching during their by week makes sense too. I had assumed they would shelf him as long as possible this season given the hip injury and rehab, maybe starting him the final 3 games or something if/when they were out of it.
He has a lot of good traits- calm, accurate, good pocket awareness and can move, has been a winner against top competition, etc. Didn't get extensive work in camp and obviously no preseason. He was 13/23 for 119 yards with an INT during their scrimmage before week 1.
I am assuming the Rams come hard at him from the left side. They should not underestimate him or think he will be flustered. But at the same time confuse him and make him find 2nd and 3rd reads as much as possible while applying pressure. Their RBs are averaging 3.4 YPC and if the Rams can play good run defense like vs. CHI I like our odds.
