Hill didnt play the slot much vs the giants. He played 13 snaps in the slot and 45 wide.
Ramsey played the slot vs the giants--41 snaps to 25 wide. I love Ramsey in the slot but not because Hill was bad. Ramsey in the slot puts him in the action--Offenses can not avoid him when he is in the slot. Blitz him, involve him more in the run game and in more exotic coverages. I'd play Ramsey there alot.
If you take slot cornerbacks with at least 25 coverage snaps in zone coverage--cover 2, 3, 6, and 3-seam(which we play alot)--Hill 's stats are
14 targets (t-6th most)
12 recs (t-4th most) for 135 yards
Allowed 5 first downs, no TDs, with a pick and a pass break up.
Those are top tier numbers for a zone slot corner. There is a reason it is a hard position,.
Name your top zone slot cb and I bet his stats look similar to Hill's.
I haven't looked at the film yet but will and see if the numbers tell the story--which they usually do.
I mean, I/m not totally sure. Hard to know what ripples happen w/JR playing the slot vs outside. But I totally agree that it's good to see him closer to the line where h can provide run support, blitz, etc. Plus, it keeps his head-on the game. I have suspected that when he's on the outside and the ball never comes his way he can get bored/lulled. H's definitely a talent we want involved throughout.
