I haven’t re-watched the game yet and I’m not even sure I will, tbh.
So, these are just a few 30,000 foot observations about things that need correction imo, fwiw.
Our secondary lacks cohesion. Duh. Fuller’s injury sure didn’t help, but Dayum! I lost count of the blown coverages in the first half but I know there were at least 4 for which the Rams paid dearly. Darious Williams’ injury affected his play, and Rapp’s coverage leaves a lot to be desired. Heck, did ANYBODY’s play in the Rams secondary impress you, including Ramsey? Me neither. They’re gonna need more snaps playing together, no question.
I’ve heard that the Fangio system requires about 8 games to really allow players to grasp it fully. That could mean until the bye? Gulp...
Kiser had a quiet game, I thought. Sigh...
Having said all that, our biggest problem is lack of pressure on the QB. We got away with it against the Cowboys and Eagles, but Allen was way too comfortable and made play after play, especially in that nightmare coverage first half. It’s gotta get fixed but I don’t know if Staley has the horses, frankly. Only after he started calling blitzes late in 3rd quarter did Allen start to struggle. I’ve lost confidence in Ebu and Obo. Sorry.
I see only two long shot possible solutions for Snead/McVay. Either Lewis gets healthy and plays like a beast in the remainder of his rookie year OR Snead works out some kind of a trade with another team that will bring in a decent edge player. This position is otherwise gonna be our Achilles heel that prevents a deep playoff run. Both solutions are long shots, I’m afraid. But living by the blitz is a dangerous strategy, too.
I love McVay. I really do. But for the life of me I can’t understand why he’s staying with Sloman. I think Sloman is a ticking time bomb. Also, The Bonamego/McVay strategy of Kupp as designated fair catcher is a head scratcher. Blows my mind on multiple levels.
I think that the O is just fine and just needs to keep on doing what it’s doing.
In short, if the Rams had had even decent pressure and/or our D didn’t have multiple and unforgivable blown coverages in that first half, this game would have been a Ram win going away.
