If I wanted to be fair (and I don't), at the time of his signing, Woods looked like a pedestrian WR added to a subpar offense.
What nobody knew outside direct access to the mind of McVay was the overall concept of the offense that made Robert Woods an integral part of the offense.
But ZN makes the best point here. Woody's skills in Kromer's effective run game in Buffalo, along with his production in the pass game (given his limited targets), meant the staff knew exactly what they were getting in his signing. For all the attention the passing game garners, if 2019 proves anything, the running game is the most essential element of this offense and if WR's can't block....this offense is nothing special.
