I can only guess....

I think many felt that because of the non-loss of a year of eligibility that "x" more years of a 'full' season better offered them a better chance to showcase their skills. I got the 'feeling' while talking with a few of them, (just a feeling), they didn't think a reduced season would be considered the 'real thing', so to speak.
