The Los Angeles Rams made a huge commitment to Jared Goff last September, signing him to a four-year extension before the 2019 season began. It came out of nowhere, considering the team said it was going to be patient with signing Goff, but it was a clear show of confidence in the young quarterback.

As committed as the Rams are to Goff, the Chiefs are even more so to Patrick Mahomes. The Chiefs signed Mahomes to a 10-year extension – which is tacked on to the remaining two years of his current contract – worth $450 million, with a maximum value of $503 million thanks to incentives.

It’s a monumental deal in an era where players typically don’t sign contracts longer than five years, tying Mahomes to the Chiefs for the majority of his career. Mahomes did more than just reset the quarterback market. He blew everyone else out of the water.
