I don't think you were going there and don't even think you were implying it, but one of the biggest myths in football is when somebody looks at the total run attempts and yards and concludes that they gave up on the run.
In reality, the cause and effect, is the ineffective run created more punts and less plays and less possessions, the team fell behind and now time remaining in the game is an element that cannot be ignored. It is simple mathematics that running the ball gives you a lesser chance to win at that point.
