Having 3 wideouts who can threaten a CB2 is far better than having one superstar X who can threaten a CB1. That CB1 can only erase ONE guy.
Also having a great pass blocking line tends to elevate your wideout talent across the board, which is far more valuable than just ONE guy.
So as much as fans get all crazy about prototypical X stud wideouts, this is why you don't see a big correlation in teams that have them winning championships.
