The Los Angeles Rams and DB Donte Deayon agreed to 1-year contract. News broke this afternoon courtesy of NFL Insider Ian Rapoport.
It was thought that the Rams were going to part ways with Deayon since he was a restricted free agent and the Rams didn’t tender him. This meant he was able to test the open market. Since the Rams were able to bring him back on a 1-year contract, it’s likely for less than $2.1 million since that’s the price of a tender.
Deayon shined during training camp and the preseason last year. He initially didn’t make the active roster, but was signed to the practice squad. He eventually made the active roster in the second half of the season. While Deayon didn’t see a ton of playing time, he did manage to see some in the final game of the season when injuries plagued the cornerbacks.
Having familiar backups on the roster is a good thing considering the success they had last season. Since the departure of Nickell Robey-Coleman, the Rams are looking for someone to cover slot receivers. Expect Deayon to compete with David Long for the role.
