Lets use Taylor as an example. You just don't see his blend of size, speed and vision very often. So I would immediately jump him to the top of the food chain. And I would use him 65-35 or 70-30 split with Hendo, because he is just superior in every way. same for Swift, Helaire, Akers and Dobbins.
The other guys will be around the same skill set as Hendo, so a guy like Perine or Evans or Dillon would be more of a 50-50 split.
None of them would be true bellcow backs. And as far as wasting resources, when the Rams stack their board, if a RB is the highest rated prospect on that board, thats the guy they will go with. Otherwise, he wouldn't have been placed on the board to begin with. Or they trade back and then take the highest guy they have left. I doubt any of the top 4 backs are available at 52, so I fully expect them to trade back and add picks. Probably grab an edge rusher or maybe Jordyn Brooks for ILBer. And lets be honest here. A rookie edge rusher is going to a rotational player, a ILBer might only be on the field for 60% of the snaps and subbed out. So a timeshare RB in the 2nd will see just as much action. The only pick that would be a fulltime starter IMO would be a OC or a LG. And then, they would have to beat out Noteboom, Corbett, Blythe and Allen.
As far as Bowden, I think he is best used in space, so I'd draft him as a slot WR and just gadget the heck out of him. he needs to work on his route running and the nuances of being a WR, he's just raw at this point. But if you are drafting him, you already have a plan on how to get the ball in his hands, whether its as wildcat QB or a RB or on jet sweeps, or screens. Reverses, whatever.
Ok that's definitely clearer. I think I'd prefer they roll with Hendo as the #1 RB and draft a complimentary piece a bit later.
Good point on pretty much any drafted player would be in a timeshare.
As for Bowden, we're on the same page. I think he'd be a hell of a gadget and a really good explosive piece in McVay's hands. And for those who immediately think Tavon when we say gadget, he is 50 lbs heavier with 4.38 speed so it's not the same thing. Per PFF, he broke more tackles on pure running plays than D’Andre Swift did last year. They think he should be a RB...in addition to a mere slot WR. That broken tackle metric leads me to agree with that assessment. I'd love to see him added to our offense.
