I see inside lb as two separate positions in our defense. Looking at Denver's inside lbs last season...
Todd Davis
6'1" 230 played 900 of 1053 defensive snaps.
If the play was pass he was in coverage-well over 90% of the time.
Alexander Johnson
6'2" 245
Played 730 of 1053 snaps
He rushed the passed on around 15% of pass snaps.
Using this as a guide you need one inside lb that plays 3 downs and can handle coverage duties all the time.
And a second inside lb with greater size with coverage responsibility 80% of the time.
Two
Takeaways
Both guys need to be able to cover
230# is not too small.
The better coverage player plays 90% of snaps.
The bigger player played 70% of snaps.
Both players were acquired as free agents.
ATM, imo T. Howard is likely the 90% ilb with Kiser or K Young the 70% ilb.
Kiser was a fifth round pick w two years here. Hard for me to see a rookie beating him out. Unless Kiser is worse than expected. Though what to expect? I have zero clue if this guy can play. But I know Reeder is terrible and we definitely need an upgrade of Hager is a starter.
Howard impressed me with his play. Small sample but I'd be ok seeing Howard play more. But is he big enough for this staff? My thought is if they go inside lb they will be looking for the 90% of snaps coverage all the time guy.
