Part of their issue has been their visual scheme- partly due to multiple moves- was all over the place. You had logos, colors, fonts, etc. from literally across the past 50 years all still floating around and competing with one another. So they are trying to meld them into something new yet reverent of the franchise's legacy while putting a very clear flag in the ground in regards to LA as their past, present and future.
Just my own interpretation, and I don't love the LA logo on its own, but the horn to me also looks subtly like a wave which is sort of cool.
