Wish the NFL Draft focus would change

Why do NFL teams treat football like Track and Field?

You want the pre draft and all the information is physical talent based vs how well they play football?

How about replacing 40 yard dash times, cone times, bench times, vertical leap measurements

with Percentage of time the cornerback executed the coverage assignment correct or the percentage of time the offensive lineman performed his blocking assignment or percentage of time a quarterback had good footwork on his drop backs or the accuracy of each type of pass that he had to make, or a WR running the routes he needs to run.

These are the stats that matter more than the Track and Field numbers. This is why teams continue to draft Greg Robinson's. Until the focus changes, these kinds of draft mistakes will continue.

While I don't like Bobby Knight's way he treated people and players, I did admire his attention to detail and players making good decisions.

HIs thoughts are that understanding the nuances of the game will always outweigh sheer talent. Smart players on the court bring more value than talent.
While you need both, sacrificing being a fundamental smart player for just talent normally does not end well.
