Player Bio
Breeland's father, Garrett, played linebacker at USC and was drafted by the Los Angeles Rams in 1986. While Garrett did not stick in the NFL for long, Jacob has a real chance to do so. He played in 11 games as a redshirt freshman in 2016 (6-123-20.5) and worked himself into a key role on offense his sophomore year, garnering honorable mention All-Pac-12 accolades with 18 catches for 320 yards (17.8 per) and five scores in 12 games with 11 starts. Breeland did not receive any all-conference honors after his junior season but started 10 of 12 games played, catching 24 passes for 377 yards (15.7 per) and two touchdowns. He started his senior campaign strong with 26 catches for 405 yards (15.6 per) and six touchdowns in six games, but suffered a knee injury in October that ended his season.

Analysis
By Lance Zierlein
NFL Analyst

Overview
Average pass-catching talent and ball skills tied to an H-back frame. Breeland mixes up his route speed and plays with some burst out of fairly crisp breaks, but he doesn't have the speed to lose coverage on crossing routes or in the seams. Scheme created most of his touchdown opportunities, so he will need to prove he can beat coverage underneath on a consistent basis. Breeland's run blocking gets a failing grade so he may need a needy roster and a great fit to stick around for very long.

Strengths
Alters route speeds to keep coverage off balance
Efficient movement with his routes
Controlled footwork gets him in and out of his breaks faster
Short area burst to open a sudden window
Leaps and leans to rope in the 50-50 throw
Adequate wiggle after the catch
Asked to handle some work-up blocks to secure the edge

Weaknesses
Body control and footwork not conducive for survival at point of attack
Allows defender to play through and across his face
Poor feel as positional blocker
Not a whole lot of strain in his run-blocking duties
Touchdowns came from scheme and slip screens
Won't be able to outrun NFL cover linebackers
Limited success uncovering on his own
