Brandon Staley emphasizes importance of having quality edge rushers

Ever since the days of Robert Quinn and Chris Long, the Rams have been seeking a stable pass-rush presence off the edge. They found it for one year in 2019 with Dante Fowler Jr. racking up 11.5 sacks, 16 tackles for loss and 16 QB hits, but he’s set to be a free agent in March and Los Angeles may not be able to retain him.

New defensive coordinator Brandon Staley has extensive experience with edge rushers, serving as the Bears’ and Broncos’ outside linebackers coach for the last three years under Vic Fangio. He coached players such as Von Miller and Khalil Mack, as well as Bradley Chubb and Leonard Floyd. He knows a good edge rusher when he sees one, and he’s well aware of the importance of having one on defense.
