Why is Dayton University called the Flyers?
Because the Wright Brothers lived in Dayton......They flew the first airplane.......So, "The Flyers" are a perfect College Nickname.

Jon Gruden also a UD Grad....They (Wright Brothers) owned a bicycle shop in Dayton, however, went to Kittyhawk, NC to test their aircraft. Was also in the Air Force assigned to Wright-Patterson AFB and lived in Dayton for 8 years...Awesome Campus and they are having one hell of year in basketball.
