Both Bones and Zuerlein are above average at their job. Bones is considered one of the best ST coaches and Greg when healthy is one of the best. I do not think losing one of the best ST coaches is a good thing for the team. Yes they had a down year, but I think we'll be wishing for Bones at some point in 2020.
Zuerlein's inability to stay healthy the full year is a concern. Yes, I lost faith in him this year, but when you see other team's kicker problems, you realize we were spoiled by his previous years. Finding a great, consistent kicker is like finding a great QB. There aren't that many of them.
I also wonder if the Rams didn't offer Jones a contract or if he just wanted out. It is usually hard to work for someone whose whole life revolves around their work. They expect everyone to work as hard as they do. Some people are not willing to spend their entire day working. Pure speculation, but I wonder if McVay will be categorized as someone who is hard to work for. It's like being a teammate of LeBron, Kobe, or Michael Jordan.....you can't meet their expectation.
