... I'm neither up in arms about it nor happy about it. Honestly, when Phillips came in 2017 I assumed it would be for 3 years because that's really been his M.O. most of his career. He comes in to right the ship, bring stability, etc. Then moves on. Did anyone think he was going to be in LA 6-8 years?
He did some really good things. At times dominant, more often than not good/above average. A fun brand of defense. He and his staff have seemed really good at developing DB talent. And they were a very good defense in the 2018 postseason. But the inconsistency does loom. Did the defense start to become a little unfocused or take their foot off the gas? Behind closed doors, who knows. But to have a team this year that gave up 16.9 ppg in 13 games and 48 ppg in the other three is pretty strange... And they didn't have many top-10 stats in his tenure other than sack numbers in 2017 and 2019. 28th in red zone defense this year? Bad...
