I think you are right he was pretty average in most areas.
Except one or two ..
You could see they gave him sorta soft duties ,,almost no responcibilities in man coverage because of the stiffness in his legs poor COD he has as older player.
Secondly he couldn't react to defend very well when a player intentionally ran into his zone.
Teams really could have done more against him given his limited movement so I actually give Eric credit for some heads-up play at times since he wasn't habitually murdered by opposing QBs to an obvious degree.
It was more like he was occasionally abused.
So stating he got a grade of average iis probably fair.
Maybe we expected too much in believing his brain his mind would make everything else ok.
To some degree it did and I think he helped the locker room.
