I believe they have their win probabilities for each of the remaining games. Based on those probabilities, they look at all scenarios for the remaining three games and give you the chance to make the playoff.
When you picked the Rams to win against Dallas, that probability changes to 100% for Rams 0% for Dallas. Everything else remains based upon their probabilities for the other games. That Ram pick to 100% increases the chance of making the playoffs.
Just an applied mathematicians guess though.
