The Ravens came into that game having scored on seven consecutive drives. The most effective way to stop such a team is to mount drives of your own, but the Rams started with two three-and-outs and never scored a TD while the Ravens started with six consecutive TD drives. When you fail to mount drives and fall behind by two TDs early in a game, it takes pressure off the other team and sets them up to be more aggressive on both sides of the ball. This can be the difference between a competitive game and a blowout. It's like a chess game when you blow the opening and them get hammered.
