We are clearly behind Seattle and SF for foreseeable future. We have also mortgaged the future for Ramsey...not a bad trade, but felt and feels like a luxury. Lots of unnecessary extensions for guys like Goff, Higgle and Havenstein will be an albatross on team. Im not being a hater, but so many of Ram moves recently have been shortsighted. Snead loves splashy headline making deals, but the correct way to build a team look to the Bay. Also, while the Rams are trading 2 1's and a 3 for Ramsey, Seattle is acquiring Jadevon Clowney for peanuts
go rams.
I'd like to amend your statement. We are behind Seattle and SF for right now. But I definitely don't agree that it's for the foreseeable future.
Things change too much in the NFL to make a blanket statement like that. Take for instance the unnecessary extensions.
Believe it or not, all three of those guys you mention - Goff, Higs, and Hav - could all be traded after the season and the team would save money. $16M in the case of Goff and approx. $6M for Higs and Have each.
They structured the contracts in a pretty smart way. They can't cut them but they can trade them. Now, I don't think they'll entertain trading Goff for one second but I'm sure they will consider it for the other two.
Next year is a brand new year and the Rams will probably be right in the thick of things. Injuries, free agents leaving, required extensions granted, players declining, young players improving are all changes that happen every year. Let's not concede the foreseeable future just because this year didn't go as well as we thought it would.
