The concept behind the West Coast passing game is that at one particular moment there is supposed to be 2-3 receivers converging on the QB's direct line of sight stacked short, medium and deep. The QB reads from short to deep (or vice versa depending) and makes the throw to the guy who appears most open.
Somewhere along the line either McVay or Goff have forgotten this very basic concept.
I look at the end of game pass long pass to Reynolds (That should have been PI) He was double covered from the start, he never should have been the target. Throw short, get the first down, try again.
Why are the Patriots so good? Because Brady doesn't force balls. But, unfortunately, McVay's "Boy Genius" moniker seems to have gone to his head and clouded his judgement and Goff is getting the yips.
He wants his QB to read from deep to short.
I don't think they forgot west coast concepts; it just hasn't been what McVay is doing nor what he taught Goff.
I think he'll have to make some adjustments in his scheme b/c the lack of a short passing game is killing them.
