The NFL has put itself in a contradiction that is frustrating fans (at least some fans, like me and you).
On the one hand, "the refs are part of the game".
On the other hand, the NFL is reducing the role of on field refs and leaving open to question a goodly portion of their calls to technology and some guy in New York who only has a few camera angles to see, and cannot hear or feel what was happening, or factor in instincts.
Those are two incompatible philosophies. They need to reverse direction (as I think we both agree).
So even with all the technology, the game still is not fully objective and I don't want it to be. On field human judgment is a needed element of the game, and has helped to make it the popular sport that it is. Instinct and circumstance need to play important roles.
Just listen carefully to the broadcast booth ref networks employee to explain. And so many times they'll say that "well, under this particular circumstance while technically one could call a foul, a no call was the better call because..........." Subjectivity. This is the human element that must not be removed.
