I think 'if X player goes down' is a great argument when determining importance. The argument is a combo of positional importance plus depth or lack of it factored in.
Let's look at kicker. If Zuerlein goes down, I feel the Rams survive whether we can find a quality backup or not. Remember he did get injured a few years ago and we had Sam Kicken replace him. It was rough but not so rough as to keep us out of the playoffs.
This argument isn't about rarity of backup only; that's just one factor. When I think of who's important, I immediately think, if I don't have this player, what are our chances?
