things were dicier... When I shot with 35mm, tho, I always had a trick up my sleeve: Split Image Viewfinder.. What the SIV did was split the image in two, vertically.. when your subject was out of focus, the two sides of the image would not line up properly.. for example, lets say you shot a dog's nose.. when out of focus, the nose would be split in half down the middle with the right side of the nose up in the viewfinder and the left side of the nose down in the viewfinder.. Focusing was as easy as turning the focus ring until the two sides lined up perfectly.. made focusing a HELL of a lot easier..
I keep wanting to add a SIV mirror to my digital Nikons, but I'm not sure its even possible.. I use autofocus most of the time, but there are times I'd much rather use manual focus, and its difficult for me to focus well without the SIV...
