I seem to recall this happening all the time. Ref blows the play dead while the guy who picks up the fumble runs... Seen it with the Rams at least a dozen times over the years and probably a lot more than that. Also happens when a receivers' knee might not be down and he keeps running but the ref blows the whistle.
So why, when I feel like I see this quite often, is it NOW that it's a travesty?
And I've never heard announcers drone about it. I've heard "tough break" or "refs missed that one"... but never "oh the humanity"... lol jeez. Perhaps trying to placate the saint fans I guess.
