I think there may be a rule about giving yourself up, just for situations like this. Otherwise a team wanting to run out the clock could not touch a ball carrier indefinitely. I did think the exact same thing in the moment though.
I think you're right, but I still would not have touched him immediately, maybe those 2 seconds tick off before the ref allows the time out, but then again, It's New Orleans and the Clock was never going to move.
