As the article says, it may have seemed like Brown got more work than he did. It's that he touched the ball a much higher percentage of his snaps (11 of 21) than Gurley did (15 of of 54). The 70/27% reps split is the right way for them to go. Last year in the games Gurley and Brown both played it was 92/8. Unsustainable.. I would guess that for most teams the split between their starting RB and backup is in that 70/30 or 75/25 range. Hardly unusual.
Defensively I was a little surprised Gaines was inactive only because I thought in that heat they would need as much DL rotation as they could get. Good to see that no DL played more than 56 snaps. Speaks to their conditioning and preparation for the heat that they didn't have cramping issues. Hopefully their legs are that much stronger this Sunday at home.
At ILB Hager only saw the field 37% of the time which was about what everyone expected for that spot going into the year. With Rapp earning playing time and natural nickel/dime situations that would have been the case with Kiser or anyone else too.
Aside from special teams or injury David Long is going to have a hard time seeing playing time in the secondary as a rookie.
