i'm assuming the rams keep 6 defensive linemen on the final 53. i'd like to see what your thoughts are on that.
as of today, barring injury, i'm also assuming the rams have the following written down on the final 53 roster in ink already:
1. donald
2. brockers
3. franklin-myers
4. joseph-day
5. gaines
any alternative views?
on the bubble for the 6th spot:
a. smart
b. fox
{as opposed to dumb fox}
did i miss anyone? i was rooting for boogie roberts early on but my optimism seems to have been ill-placed per camp reports.
so here's what i'm thinking:
smart and fox both cost the cap $645k each. smart would carry a dead cap hit of $41k if cut so call him $600k but i'm thinking fox has a better chance of sticking then smart. so $645k is the cost of the 6th defensive lineman in my mind.
the vet minimum is $1,030k for 2019 but that only counts as $645k against the cap.
so if ... big important if, the rams could get domata peko for vet min, he'd come at no additional cost against the cap.
i'd rather have peko for 1 year while joseph-day and gaines mature on the roster under his veteran mentorship as opposed to either to smart or fox. especially if he costs nothing relative to what's already being spent. i think snead can find a replacement to peko, fox or smart easily next off season.
