Rampage2K is saying that if your goal is to make a prediction that is most likely to be right, it's not smart to predict 8-8.

Responders are saying "R2K, 8-8 is within the realm of possibility!", as if he was saying it just couldn't happen.

Those are two different things. Happens all the time on this board.

If saying a prediction is idiotic is NOT the same as claiming it's NOT within the realm of possiblity, then I don't get the point of putting it that way.

Someone can just say "8-8 is not likely" and leave it at that if that's all they want. If anyone said that it would not have been controversial.

Raising the stakes with inflamed rhetoric sounds to me like someone flat ruling something out. Otherwise I don't see the point of the inflamed rhetoric.

What happens a lot on all boards is someone acting as if someone taking a position I don't hold myself is worthy of disdain, attacks, inflammatory language, and/or being flamed for bad motives. It's just an inability to recognize that yes there can be a range of views on something---no matter how strongly I believe my own view.

Or if someone has to vent, it defangs it by saying something like "to me an 8-8 prediction sounds idiotic."

People can put things the way they want, but there's always going to be responses and repercussions, depending on how we put it.

Believing anything else is idiotic.
