Two Rams recognized as best players from their respective draft classesNFL.com’s Adam Schein recently picked the best player to come from each of the last nine draft classes and the Rams came away with two selections: Donald and Gurley.
Picking the best player from the 2014 class is especially difficult. It was a loaded draft that saw Khalil Mack, Odell Beckham Jr., Jadeveon Clowney, Zack Martin and Mike Evans selected in the first round. Of the top 17 picks, only four haven’t made a Pro Bowl.
Donald certainly stands above the rest, having won two Defensive Player of the Year awards and breaking the DT sack record with 20.5 last season. But a case could also be made for Mack and Beckham being the top picks from that class.
In 2015, the quality dropped off a cliff. There are underwhelming quarterbacks at the top in Marcus Mariota and Jameis Winston, busts such as Kevin White and Ereck Flowers and disappointing players like DeVante Parker, Kevin White and Dante Fowler Jr. A few studs also came out of that class – Amari Cooper, Leonard Williams, Brandon Scherff, Byron Jones, Landon Collins – but Gurley is the cream of the crop.
