They may be running Joseph-Day as the "starter" at NT in OTAs but likely that is purely because he has been in the system a year. I don't think anyone has an inside track to that starting spot. And it very well may be by committee in the end. Heck, Brockers could still get some work there come fall.
When we see who's running with the 1s in week 3 of preseason that will probably tell us more.
Agreed.
And so far it's just practice in pajamas. NT is a VERY physical position and so practice in pajamas ain't the end of the story.
I think I am hoping that in fact they have 2 potential starters.
And notice about S J-D---he is one of their 2018 redshirts. Last year we kept hearing that they liked him and would have no trouble playing him if they had to because of injury, but (like Kiser) it was a redshirt year.
Meanwhile they have Tanzel Smart, who is more veteran than Joseph-Day but is NOT running with the ones at this point. So it's a bit more than just S J-D already knows the system. So does TS, and TS is getting no buzz (at this point.)
So I am inclined to think that maybe there's a bit more to current reports about S J-D showing something. Which gets us back to pajamas. The word on his progress is omething at this point, but far from final.
