10 Greatest Rams Teams of All Time

By Aaron Tallent

6. 2018 Los Angeles Rams
Finished: Lost to New England Patriots 13-3 in Super Bowl LIII

Regular Season Record: 13-3

The Rams won back-to-back division titles for the first time since the '70s and made it to the Super Bowl. Despite the loss to the Patriots, one has to wonder if this is only the beginning for this team.

5. 1950 Los Angeles Rams
Finished: Lost to Cleveland Browns 30-28 in NFL Championship Game

Regular Season Record: 9-3

Quarterback Norm Van Brocklin threw for more than 2,000 yards and 18 touchdowns as the Rams showed what was possible with a modern passing game. Los Angeles set the league record for average points per game at 38.8 and if the defense had not given up an average of 25.8, the 1950 squad may have been one of the greatest ever. In the end, the Rams lost a shootout to Cleveland on a field goal in the final minute.

4. 1945 Cleveland Rams
Finished: Beat Washington Redskins 15-14 in NFL Championship Game

Regular Season Record: 9-1

The Rams did not have a winning season in their first seven years in the NFL, but everything came together in 1945 with the franchise's first championship. However, sustained financial losses prompted owner Dan Reeves to move the team to Los Angeles in the offseason, making the 1945 Rams the only champion to play in a new city the next season.

3. 2001 St. Louis Rams
Finished: Lost to New England Patriots 20-17 in Super Bowl XXXVI

Regular Season Record: 14-2

The Rams fielded the league's best offense and third-ranked defense en route to making their second Super Bowl in three years. If not for a superb game plan by Bill Belichick, this team would be No. 1 on this list.

2. 1951 Los Angeles Rams
Finished: Beat Cleveland Browns 24-17 in NFL Championship Game

Regular Season Record: 8-4

The 1951 team was much like the '50 squad, loaded on offense and weak on defense. The only difference is that this team beat Cleveland for the title, thanks to a 73-yard touchdown pass from Norm Van Brocklin to Tom Fears to seal the win.

1. 1999 St. Louis Rams
Finished: Beat Tennessee Titans 23-16 in Super Bowl XXXIV

Regular Season Record: 13-3

St. Louis acquired a number of offensive weapons in the offseason and discovered Kurt Warner in the preseason and the "Greatest Show on Turf" was born. The Rams went from 4-12 to Super Bowl champs and became the first team that played its home games indoors to win a Lombardi Trophy.
