And fans complained about it each time and with the same arguments. I'm sure that back in the '70's it was speculated that the human body couldn't withstand the rigors of a 14 game season and that there was a symmetry to 12 games that shouldn't be messed with.

18 regular season games and 2 preseason games sounds a lot better than 16/4 to me.
