As I read it, and it was complicated, it basically said that strong coverage correlates with defensive success more than strong pass rush, but that pass rush is more stable year to year (good pass rushers this year will probably be good pass rushers next year) with success in coverage is much less stable. I think we have all seen this - one year they are talking about "Revis Island" and two years later no one wants to pay him anymore because his effectiveness has dropped off.
I think the end of the article suggested that having a deep secondary, and investing in quality depth at S and CB especially, makes it more likely you will have coverage success year after year. Which bodes well for us having invested some of our top draft capital this year at S and CB and adding these young talents to an already pretty good secondary.
