We don't need no stinking' run D...
I think it's obvious, well it seems to me, that Wade's main focus was not on stopping the run. I think where Suh was a disappointment for me is that he played a high percentage of snaps but didn't apply consistent pressure on the QB.... but then I'm not 100% certain what his job was... Suh was dominant in the playoffs so I'm not sure what to think.
After watching several of Gaines full games... well I don't see him as an upgrade. I am hoping he is kind of like Havenstein, effective but not pretty doing it. I don't know what to think. Everyone loves the pick so I must be missing something.
Again, after watching several games, I don't know if Matthews was hurt last season but he missed several tackles. Hopefully a new, albeit familiar, venue will breathe new life into him. For the record, I don't see Matthews slowing down as much as some people say. He definitely was not a violent player or very strong last season... but he was active. Something was off.. could be due to age but I hope not. Matthews rarely played inside last season so maybe that would be better suited for him now. idk.
With the Gaines pick it suggests to me that the Rams are going to focus more on stopping the run. Gaines has little pass rush ability. Other than the few highlights we saw, he rarely got any pressure on the QB, so picking him and giving him a shot at the starting role would suggest that there is some philosophy change.
One thing is for sure, I am looking forward to pre-season.
