Ramboni
Excellent read, thank you! I am really concerned about drafting Tillery though. He has so many red flags I think he would be a big risk for a 1st rounder. He certainly has the physical skills and a high ceiling. Very smart, graduated with a Business degree in his Jr. year. However this would be a major dice toss considering his attitude (was not well liked by teammates), his torn labrum (had surgery on March 6, won't be cleared to practice until July), was known as a bit of a party animal in school, ran hot and cold in games (inconsistent) and seems to have some emotional issues both on and off the field. He also skipped the Senior Bowl that I assume was due to his injury (he played 6 games after the injury) although he went to the Combine before the surgery too.
Anyway, he makes me a bit uncomfortable with all these flags. Trusting the Rams to turn him around is admirable but I'm not convinced he's a "we not me" kind of player.
So just going off of Ramboni's statement, I read all of these things adding up to a "we not me" player. My point was to counter-argue the underlined points.
* Being a party animal in college will not matter to the Rams as long as he isn't failing drug tests.
* Emotional issues on and off the field will not matter to the Rams. At least judging by the trade for Peters, and the signings of Talib and Suh. All of them have had issues on and off the field.
* injuries are obviously not an issue as long as he gets the ok from doctors.
So really the only we not me stuff that could affect him in the eyes of the Rams is the unliked teammate stuff Herbstreit brought up but never elaborated on. I just wanted to point out to Ramboni that most of the other stuff is just hubris that may seem like a lot, but in reality, isn't much.
For the record, he has come out saying how much he loves football. he came back to ND for his senior year when he didn't necessarily have to, but liked college and wanted to get better. And he played 6 games after being injured. That tells me he loves to play.
All that said, there are reasons to have a guy in for a private visit that has nothing to do with football. Maybe they wanted their doctors to see his repaired shoulder. Its just doing their due diligence.
Lastly, I think you have nailed the we not me stuff, and I am 100% with you in agreement why Suh is not here. But on Peters, he has done a ton of selfish stuff on the field that has cost his team. He is also not what I would call a willing tackler, that is more about self preservation then winning games. He is not my definition of we, not me.
Talib, he's a baller. Crazy as all get out, but he competes and players love him. (well, not Crabtree, but most players)
