I think the media/fans often overthink performance. Teams that contend are probably very closely matched in regards to talent level. For example, the Rams, Saints, and Bears all have roughly the quality of players, all-around, The key is the performance of the QB and the coaching staff in big games. See the Patriots. In the 90s, I think the talent discrepancy was much greater with the Cowboys and Bills dominant.
The Rams need Goff to make plays. Simple. Goff has to drive this offense over the 20 something point barrier in big games. And the staff has to find a way to get him to perform. The Eagles with Foles are a perfect example of a team's coaching staff doing everything to maximize the QB they had.
Football is a team game but in the absence of a generational defense the QB determines the team's success.
