It is my impression that Snead and Saffold are likeable, honest guys. The Rams want him back and he wants to stay (as he said several times last season).

The reality is there is only so far the Rams can go before they will risk this year and future years. They have no doubt made their best offer to Saffold and told him so.

Here's what Saffold has to consider:

1. He's made $37,441,158 in his career so far. I am sure the Rams didn't lowball him. Does he really want the extra $ difference between the Rams best offer and someone else's?

2. He played on a horrible team for his entire career until the last 2 years, when he has experienced tremendous team success. The odds are the Rams will be a better team than wherever he signs next year. Does he want to go somewhere with a weaker shot at getting to the Super Bowl?

3. He already left once to sign with the Raiders and that went poorly. Yet the Rams welcomed him back with open arms. They respect him, they give him days off, he likes his teammates, his line mates and his coaches. He knows the system and is enjoying playing football. There are no guarantees of any of those things at his next stop.

4. He did recently get baptized in Johnny Hekker's pool and has become closer to God:. [sportsspectrum.com] Perhaps the additional dollars won't be as important to him as they would be to others.

5. Does we want to live and play in LA or go to somewhere else to prepare for his after football life? How important is the weather to him and his family and how imbedded are they in the community and the area?
