For you all, is that legitimately on the table?
Because it's simply not for me.
Fowler doesn't have that and he's going to fetch 11 ...
I'm not paying that either. Not when I can draft a better player at 31 and get superior production as soon as next year for pennies on the dollar.
Two thoughts on your question.
First, yeah I would pay $15-$17M for elite edge production. I believe the synergy from pairing that type of player with AD would be other worldly. Various metrics indicated that we were #1 in overall pressures (the Donald effect) but way down the list in sacks and turnovers. IMO that is because we had nothing on the edge.
I believe that sacks and forced turnovers would shoot up if we had an elite edge presence to pair with AD. I believe this enough that I would be willing to trade Brockers to afford it. And then sign a cheap run stuffer like Hankins at NT to replace Brocks run defense.
Secondly, I am fundamentally against paying average players large sums of money like 8 or 9 million. That's what Barrett is going to cost and IMO it's paying for potential, not proven starting production. He will be getting paid because he is 25 and supposedly has upside. But I just question the upside of someone who's been in the league for 4 or 5 years but hasn't produced much.
I'm not overpaying for that. Fowler I would go a little higher for but if he costs more than $9M I would pass. I too am not doing $11M.
I don't believe in overpaying at all but if I was gonna make an exception for that, it would be for an elite player.
